CTR qualified riders part 5: Claudine Deprez

  • Posted: 29 April 2017

Horse and Rider
This is the final of our five part series on riders who have qualified for the Wendover Heights Equine CT Rider Winter Dressage Championships 2017 with Dressage Anywhere. We meet the lovely Claudine Deprez and Satillia who have qualified at Elementary level.

How did you hear about Chiltern and Thames Rider Magazine membership and how long have you been a member?

I have know about the CTR magazine for over five years now but have only had memberships for three seasons. The first was back in 2012 for the Summer dressage and then I took out an SJ and dressage membership although I didn't end up even trying to qualify the second time.

Have you ridden at a CTR Dressage Championships before?

I rode my one and only championship in October 2012 with my current horse. We were a new partnership then and gave the Elementary and Mediums a go. We didn't get placed at the Elementary as the standard was very high and both my horse and I were very nervous but we came 5th in the Medium which was only our third go at medium so that was brilliant.

After that I was going to do it again and give the SJ a go as my mare has a fab jump but through lack of transport and rising costs of daily hire that ended up a dead end so we focussed on getting to know each other more and also I wanted to go back to basics with my horse and reschool her in a more classical way.

How did you hear about Dressage Anywhere?

Because of my lack of transport and the high costs involved in hiring a vehicle for a day I decided to give Dressage Anywhere a go. I first heard of it through a friend on Facebook so I looked into it and when I saw that I could qualify for the CTR Championships that way I went for it and qualified!

The way my test was judged, commented on and scoresheet returned was on a par and in fact in some ways better than going out, so I will definitely be giving it another go and have recommended Dressage Anywhere to my friends too.

Tell us a bit about your horse

More about my horse - Satillia is a dark bay 16.3hh KWPN mare, although I firmly believe she is taller than that but try getting near her with a measuring stick!!! Our partnership started in 2012 when I started riding her to keep her ticking over while she was being sold. However I fell in love with her and thanks to Karen Hayes she is with me for good now! She is now 18 years and still doesn't act her age! We have retired from jumping now as she finds it a bit stressful (her experience means she is only about 6 mentally when it comes to jumping) and neither of us enjoy being stressed anymore so dressage and hacking are our future.

What are your goals for 2017?

My goal for 2017 is to try to improve our way of going and to get Satillia working in a stronger more uphill frame. Lack of transport is my main challenge as I don't own a car that can tow and so have to rely on friends to take me out and about. Big shout to my bestie, Liz Hamilton for taking me out and getting me back into competing again.

My final goal for 2017 is to lose some weight and get fitter so that as Satillia gets older we can keep each other going.

Tell us something we might not know about you

Something about me....I absolutely love coaching and working with other riders and horses and my dream would be to have a yard that kids and adults who have always dreamed of riding but can't afford to could come to me and learn.
